From the first shift you waited up for to the calls that came home with them, Family — One Call at a Time is a guided journal for the people behind the firefighters, EMTs, police officers and dispatchers: spouses and partners, kids, parents and grandparents.
There are no wrong answers in here. It's a place to put down the side of the story the run reports never tell — the waiting, the holidays you moved, the proud moments, and the calls that followed someone home.
Every prompt is written so anyone in the family can answer it. Where it asks "I am their," circle who you are and write your name. Some pages one person fills in; some the whole family shares.
Fill it in however you like. Front to back over a career, or one page on the night you finally need to. A few you may never fill in at all — and that's allowed too.
Years from now, it'll be the closest thing your family has to a record of what this life was really like. Keep the porch light on. And when you can, write it down.

They write the report on everybody else's worst day. This is the one your family writes on yours.
The missed holidays, the scanner nights, growing up around a shift calendar. Fill it in over a season or over a career. There are no wrong answers.
